What we're about

Have you always wanted to write a memoir but didn't know where to start? Have your children or grandchildren asked you to write down your experiences? Do you feel driven to write your own story?

Tell Your True Life story workshops are an inspiring path to self discovery for the beginning writer and a place where experienced writers can work on finding their voice.

You will learn to share your work in a non-critical atmosphere where there are no rules, no right or wrong ways to write. There is only the honest way.

You will write each week on a “theme” or “prompt” that will trigger memories.

When you discover your true life story by looking within, amazing things happen.
People who never thought they could write a coherent sentence find that they are amazingly eloquent. Writers who thought they had nothing to say, find hidden wells of material. You may be surprised by the extent of your memories.
As your workshop leader my goal is create a safe space where you can get to the heart of your story without fear of criticism. We share our work but there is only one rule—say what you loved about what was read. I am happy to critique your work privately if you’re interested in publication. This is not just a class—it’s a process of self-discovery. Part of the process is discovering who you are as a person, and as a writer.
Prompts:
Write two pages about…
…a skill you painfully acquired and no longer need
…what you wish you could still do
…something that makes you laugh every time
…the friend that got away
…dinner at your house when you were a child
