Art Journaling for Self Care

Details

Hello Art friends!

I had such a great time at our last meeting! Thank you to all who were able to attend.

Let's make some art! In the interest of creating a welcoming space for all, I would like to try something new. Our normal self care question is "What self care needs are showing up for you today?" and from there we create a prompt. What happens if we started the process a little early?

This week, let's explore Finding rest on the Heroine's Journey.

Here is an image of The Archetypal Great Round of Mandala. I will share with you where it originates and what it means. For now, consider it as a symbol of the stages of the Heroine's Journey.

No matter where you are in the journey. you will face challenges designed to help you grow. But these challenges take a lot out of us. How do you rest and replenish? Below are some questions to consider:

  • How do you know you are being challenged? What does your body or mind tell you?
  • What energies are being used? How much?
  • Is the rest you are taking enough to offset the energy drain?
  • After we are rested, we need to replenish. What fills your cup? Energizes you?

I am sharing the prompt below to help you start thinking about it and bring it into your day to day. We will do the art when we meet on Friday. Maybe you might want to gather some images to add to your work.

Prompt: Create a map of where you are in the Heroine's Journey. What is the landscape? Glaciers, mountains, volcanos, deserts? Fill the environment. Remember to include those places of refuge! Where are the places of rest and replenish? What do they look like? Small, large?

What to know about my events:
No art skills are needed for this class - it is open to everyone, regardless of experience or skill level. Each person uses the supplies they have on hand, pen, pencil, watercolor, markers, colored pencils, anything goes. Some people draw, paint, write poetry, or journal. Do what works best for you.

If attendance exceeds 12 participants, I would like to ask for a volunteer cohost. Cohost responsibilities would include monitoring the chat and managing the waiting room.

Hope to see you soon,
Salina
