Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an evidence-based, interactive, and structured course that runs for 8 weeks. It is the ‘gold standard’ in Mindfulness training and has been rigorously researched over the last 30 years.
Designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts, this course has helped over 24,000 participants world-wide live with more ease and resilience by changing how they relate to stress.
During the MBSR participants will learn how to:
- Practice various forms of guided meditation including body scan, mindful movement, and sitting meditation
- Get curious, through dialogue, about their experience of meditation to gain a deeper understanding
- Practically integrate mindfulness into many aspects of their lives including challenges, relationships, communication, and self care.
Research indicates that after completing this course participants experience:
- Reduced stress, anxiety, pain, and reactivity
- Improved sleep, relationships, and awareness
- Reduced impact of self judgement and greater self acceptance
- More effective navigation of interpersonal conflict
- Greater self-worth and compassion for others
Like training a muscle in the body, training the muscles of the mind takes practice, patience, and intention.
The course does require a level of commitment to yourself and to your meditation practice.
Each class is 2 hours and consists of:
- Guided meditation practices
- Dialogue with the facilitator and the group
- Psycho-educational exercises
Home practice is a major component of the course and will involve guided meditation practices of about 30 minutes a day.
All necessary materials will be provided by the facilitator including:
- A PDF workbook
- Guided meditation recordings
Towards the final weeks of the course participants will attend a half-day guided meditation retreat.
