🚋Take the retro train for about 24 minutes and head to the autumn leaves and Tengu Forest👺
🏯On the way back, you can also see Odawara Castle, which is 10 minutes from Odawara Station.
❄️ A Winter Visit to Daiyuzan Saijoji Temple
While many flock to Kamakura or Hakone, Saijoji remains a hidden gem that feels particularly mystical in winter. The towering, centuries-old Japanese cedars (Sugi) create a natural cathedral that muffle the outside world.
👺 The Legend of the Tengu
Saijoji is famous for its connection to Doryo-son, a monk who, according to legend, transformed into a Tengu (a supernatural winged being) to protect the temple.
• The Giant Geta: You’ll see massive red stone and iron Geta (traditional wooden clogs) all over the grounds. They symbolize the strength of the Tengu and are often offered by couples to pray for a harmonious relationship (since clogs come in inseparable pairs).
🌲 Winter Highlights
• Serene Silence: In winter, the usual humidity of the forest vanishes. The air is sharp and clear, making the spiritual atmosphere even more intense.
• The 354 Steps: To reach the Okuno-in (inner shrine), you’ll need to climb a steep stone staircase. It’s a workout, but in winter, you won’t overheat as much! Your reward is a sense of accomplishment and a quiet moment at the top.

❄️ 冬の大雄山最乗寺（道了尊）ガイド
都会の喧騒を離れ、張り詰めた冬の空気の中で「禅」の精神を感じたいなら、南足柄市にある大雄山最乗寺は最高の場所です。曹洞宗の非常に格式高いお寺でありながら、どこか神秘的な力に満ちています。
👺 天狗の伝説
最乗寺といえば、道了尊（どうりょうそん）の伝説が欠かせません。寺院の建立に貢献した道了という僧が、完成後に天狗となって山中へ飛び去り、寺を護り続けていると言い伝えられています。
• 巨大な下駄： 境内の至る所に、巨大な朱塗りの下駄や鉄製の下駄が奉納されています。これは天狗の力強さの象徴。また、下駄は左右一対揃って役割を果たすことから、夫婦円満のパワースポットとしても知られています。
🌲 冬の見どころ
• 静寂に包まれた森： 冬は空気が乾燥し、高くそびえる杉並木が周囲の音を吸収するため、驚くほどの静寂が広がります。凛とした空気の中での参拝は、心が洗われるような体験です。
• 奥の院へ続く354段の階段： 最も高い場所にある「奥の院」へは、急な石段を登ります。なかなかの運動量ですが、冬なら汗をかきすぎることもありません。登りきった時の達成感と、そこからの静かな眺めは格別です。
