🏔️ Izu Zen & Peak: Mt. Kinkan & Shuzenji

Escape the crowds of Hakone and experience the "Little Kyoto" of Izu, followed by a panoramic hike with breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji.

🥾 Part 1: The Mt. Kinkan Experience
Mt. Kinkan (816m) is one of the best-kept secrets for hikers. It's an accessible trail that rewards you with a massive payoff.
• The "Fuji" View: On clear days, the view of Mt. Fuji across Suruga Bay is unobstructed and legendary.
• Accessibility: The path from Heda Pass (戸田峠) is well-maintained, making it suitable for beginners.
⛩️ Part 2: Shuzenji
– The Cultural Heart of Izu
After descending, we dive into the 1,200-year history of this hot spring town.
• Shuzenji Temple: A Zen Buddhist temple founded by Kobo Daishi. Guests can learn about the tragic history of the Minamoto clan.
• Explain the "Shogunate" History: Briefly mention that Shuzenji was a place of exile and political drama during the Kamakura period. It adds a "Game of Thrones" layer to the beautiful scenery.
• Footbath Etiquette: Remind guests to bring a small towel.
🌸Part 3:Starting in early February, the air fills with the sweet scent of plum blossoms. This 3-hectare grove, nestled in a nature park just north of the Shuzenji hot spring district, boasts around 1,000 red and white plum trees across 20 varieties. Don't miss the breathtaking sight of ancient trees, some of which have stood for over a century.

💡 Travel Notes for Guests
* Warm Clothing: Mt. Kinkan can be very windy. Even if it feels warm in town, please bring a windbreaker or a light jacket.
* Cash: While major stations accept IC cards (Suica/Pasmo), it’s good to have some cash for local buses and small shops in the hot spring area.
