About us

We are Miami’s original dragon boat team, established in 2002, with a long history in the South Florida paddling community.

Over the years, hundreds of paddlers have trained with the club, and in 2025 the team was recognized by Miami New Times as Miami’s Best Sports Team.

This Meetup group exists to share the sport of dragon boat paddling and the lifestyle that comes with it, being on the water, working as a team, and getting stronger through steady, consistent effort. It offers a full body workout that feels different from the gym and more connected to the environment around you.

The club trains year round and regularly travels to paddle in races and events across the U.S. and internationally. One of our upcoming adventures is a team trip to Vogalonga in Venice.

Red Dragons Miami is based at Miami Yacht Club, a private, centrally located facility with easy access, on-site restrooms, restaurants, and calm water access, with views of downtown Miami and the Port of Miami. Team practices and meetup paddles launch from this location.

Joining the team is always optional. Some people come simply to paddle and enjoy the workout; others choose to train more regularly or travel with the team over time. There’s no pressure either way.

What matters most here is a love of the water, a willingness to learn, and respect for the team. No prior dragon boat experience is required. Improvement happens naturally when people show up, listen, and paddle together.

If you’re looking for a healthy, active way to spend time on the water and enjoy the idea of moving in sync with others, this Meetup is a welcoming place to start.
