What we’re about
**Most Important** Since people are joining these events from other platforms (not just Meetup), I made a website for all to sign up at to make it simple to keep track. So know, at the top of the description of event, there is a link to my website, through that link you legitly sign up. You can still RSVP via Meetup as that gives you the ability to leave a review on Meetup is which is appreciated, but not mandatory of course. TLDR: Sign up via website for events (link at top of description of posted event).
Also just FYI I changed the name to "Behind The Front", from "we're not really strangers".
Okay now for a little intro:
We live in a world starving for realness. Surface-level has become the default. People talk without saying anything, listen without hearing, and smile while scrolling past each other’s lives. It’s all so polished, so pleasant, so profoundly dead. We’ve learned to trade authenticity for acceptance — to be agreeable instead of true. But under all that posturing, there’s a part of you that remembers: connection doesn't feel like this. This is why Behind The Front was created.
**What happens at these events?**
Well I can't give away too much surprise and mystery but roughly following the principles of "Authentic Relating?" (yes it's an actual modality).
Most conversations skim the surface. We say we’re “good,” even when we’re not. We nod, smile, perform, and leave feeling like we didn’t really connect.
**Authentic Relating** is a practice that flips that. It’s about showing up as you are - messy, clear, uncertain, excited, tired, quiet, and being met there. It’s the art of speaking your truth, listening with presence, and creating moments of realness between people who are tired of faking it.
No spiritual bypassing. No forced vulnerability. Just honest, grounded, human-to-human connection.
**What are Authentic Relating Games?**
They’re guided exercises designed to help us remember how to actually relate. Some are light and playful. Some are deep and revealing. All of them are built to bring us into the present moment with ourselves and with each other.
You’ll ask questions you don’t usually ask. You’ll be listened to without interruption. You’ll see people, and be seen, in ways that most of us rarely experience.
These “games” aren’t about performing or getting it right. They’re about dropping the "front". And maybe, for a moment, remembering that feeling of just "being" with someone.
Hi, my name is Chase, I grew up with a stutter and a lot of fear around it. For years, I thought my inability to speak fluently was the thing holding me back from connection, from belonging, from being understood. I believed that once I could finally talk like everyone else, the gates would open. Connection would just... happen. But when the words finally came easy, the disappointment hit harder. Because the truth was, most people weren’t really listening anyway. People who could speak "normally" were often just as disconnected as I was. I realized that what I wanted wasn’t just the ability to speak — I wanted something real. To speak into a space that could actually hold something real. That’s what this is about. Not polished speech. Not perfect delivery. Just presence.
**Rough Structure:**
10am - Welcome/intro
10:10 - Group grounding
10:20 - Authentic Relating games (usually in randomized pairs switching every 5 minutes or so)
11:20 - Authentic Conversation prompts (usually random groups of 4 switching every 20 minutes)
12:20 - Wind down
12:30 - Goodbye
**So What Do You get With Your $7 Ticket?**
Well obvs you get to come to the event, but you also get access to the events WhatsApp group where you can continue on good feeling connections after the event. Plus this group will be added to the community BTF (Behind The Front) WhatsApp channel, with everyone from past events in there (lots of cool people looking to connect and do fun things) We have sub communities attached too for specific interests like pickleball, cold dips, weekly dinners, etc.
But zooming out, what do you get from a $7 ticket? Community.

**Most Important** Please make sure to sign up via link provided above. I have people joining from many different platforms (not just meetup) so this is the easiest to keep track. You can RSVP here on meetup as well (gives you the ability to leave a review afterwards which is appreciated), but not mandatory
Also just FYI I changed the name to "Behind The Front", from "we're not really strangers".
We're meeting in a Park! Sir Sandford Fleming Park to be exact.
When I hosted the last 9 of these events, the cap was 12 people because we were indoors. Now that the warmth is coming, we can utilize the earth. Setting the cap to 30 people for this first event outdoors in Halifax.
