D&D and Boardgames

Details
We will be playing D&D Saturdays, the exact location will be DM to you after confirming attendance. First visit is $50.
Suggest bringing an iPad/laptop as we will be using D&D Beyond, and it is easier to see your character sheet/perform rolls. Do note there is no WiFi, and spare character sheets will be provided in case.
You may also choose to play one of the many boardgames on offer after.
What should I know about D&D?
Unlike RPG games, D&D is completely open world (within reason), where imagination and creative thinking are encouraged (within reason). There is no true end goal, except for what the DM and players set for themselves.
Gameplay consists of roleplay and combat, and you will be required to make skill checks/attack rolls/saving throws.
Skill checks:
Roll a d20 (20 sided die) and add your modifier for that skill. For example, you will need to roll Stealth to hide from enemies. With a Stealth modifier of +3, you will roll d20 + 3. The number to meet or beat (Difficulty Class (DC)) is usually 10.
Combat:
It mostly follows the following stages:
- Roll initiative (who goes first, modifiers apply)
- Move (up to 30 ft or 6 tiles unless stated otherwise)
- Roll to hit (d20 + weapon modifier, meet or beat enemy Armor Class (AC) to hit)
For certain spells, you will need the enemy to make saving throws, requiring to meet or beat your spell save DC. Saving throws are in a different category than abilities, and their modifiers may be different.
A natural 20 (without modifiers) is always a hit, and doubles your damage dice before modifiers, whereas a natural 1 is always a miss.
-
Roll damage (if hit, roll the dice required plus any modifiers to determine damage)
-
Avoid damage (enemy’s roll to hit must not meet or beat your AC, or if saving throws are required, to pass your saving throw)
There will usually be two combat encounters per session.
You are encouraged to create your own character (or use one of the premade ones) before the session, a quick character can also be made during.

Every week on Saturday until September 13, 2025
