Against New Materialisms

Details
One of the most influential trends in the humanities and social sciences in the last decades, new materialisms (including 'speculative realism', 'object-oriented ontology' & 'actor-network theory') embody a critique of modernity and a pledge to regain immediate reality by focusing on the materiality of the world – human and nonhuman – rather than a post-structuralist focus upon texts.
Against New Materialisms examines the theoretical and practical problems connected with discarding modernity and the human subject from a number of interdisciplinary angles: ontology and phenomenology to political theory, mythology and ecology.
The essays here challenge the capacity of new materialisms to provide solutions to current international crises, whilst also calling into question what the desire for such theories can tell us about the global situation today.
We will be considering this book: 'Against New Materialisms' ed. by Benjamin Boysen and Jesper Lundsfryd Rasmussen. We will finish up with any topics from the introduction, then consider Chapter 1: Object Oriented Ontology and the Passion for the Real by Zahi Zalloua. https://www.amazon.com/Against-New-Materialisms-Benjamin-Boysen-ebook/dp/B0C89GRBRB/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1853RFWCOKJGB&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.H1jwo3rLzAHfwLzdflTFY_N9SLpnphBENF0QxzMdrof8cADD_9vOTrpI1JGDdj1c8z-ntpadgXJT8T9XKb73PwYg3RyyRyHaRZ9_SL0sHSiv11DO_iNZ9SFaBFn0WogP-2vF0Iiz-rt3WoEQ-XpPSKz3PjNyg4OJ27yQpgarBgJcrqQLyxmNuejpRnW_7Ir1xDQUPLdCmv2F0UDqZB6Auw.XeU-Oe05ImGhFsQ0QQ22lRhcM7kPGaTXDWXOgSuLsaA&dib_tag=se&keywords=against+new+materialism&qid=1754618208&s=books&sprefix=against+new+materialism%2Cstripbooks%2C129&sr=1-1
