Superdeterminism
Details
This meeting will work through Superdeterminism. A class of Quantum Mechanics theories "interpretations" that is widely dismissed but has been getting more attention recently through work of Sabine Hossenfelder and Tim Palmer. James & Michael will present Superdeterminism, a hidden variables theory that posits a deterministic universe and controversially removes the Statistical Independence assumption for Quantum measurements. This allows keeping locality to explain the Bell's Inequality violation. There will be plenty of Sabine Hossenfelder & Metaphysical meat to chew! Covering highlights from the following two papers as the bulk of the meeting and recommend reading them to prepare - 25 pages: • Superdeterminism: A Guide for the Perplexed by Sabine Hossenfelder https://arxiv.org/pdf/2010.01324 • Testing Superdeterministic Conspiracy by Sabine Hossenfelder https://arxiv.org/pdf/1401.0286 Optionally these videos/book provide additional background: • Rethinking Superdeterminism (first 30mins) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YglT09Korr0 • Does Superdeterminism save Quantum Mechanics. Or does it kill free will and destroy science? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytyjgIyegDI • Robert Spekken on Curt Jaimungal Theories of Everything Youtube channel here https://youtu.be/gWiTkFnrYgA?si=o9mlqm5uDn_WddAi • D'hooft "The Cellular Automaton Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics" here https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-319-41285-6 For those interested, on Thursday, March 12, we will begin to consider Gerard d'Hooft's book on his Cellular Automaton Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics: https://www.meetup.com/meetup-group-philosophy101/events/313568190/?eventOrigin=your_events
