HIKE: Trillium Gap Trail to Brushy Mountain, Great Smoky Mountains Natl. Park

Details
Brushy Mountain may not be the highest peak in the Smokies, but it offers outstanding views. Beginning at the Grotto Falls parking, off Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, we will hike the 0.2 mile spur to the Trillium Gap Trail. We'll then head southeast up the side of Mt. LeConte to the junction at Trillium Gap. Along the way we will pass behind Grotto Falls, walk among old growth trees, and enjoy wonderful views. At the Gap, we'll follow the short spur to Brushy Mountain itself to an opening in the heath bald (~4,900 ft. elevation) with spectacular views east, south, and west in clear weather. Our return trip will be the same way.
Hike is 6.4 miles RT with ~1,600 ft. elevation gain. Rated Moderate.
Our Moderate hikes are: 5-10 miles and/or elevation change of 1000-1800', on trail hiking. Hikers should be regularly hiking 5+ miles with 400-500 feet of continuous elevation gain over a mile, at a 2.0-2.5 mph pace.
