HIKE: Beech Gap to Bob Bald - Cherokee National Forest

Details
Enjoy panoramic views along the Cherohala Skyway before arriving at our meetup point! The high elevation of this hike should provide a respite from the summer heat. We'll hike about 0.1 mile along the Highway from our parking spot (the Unicoi Crest Overlook Trailhead) to the starting point of our hike (Beech Gap at 4500ft elevation). After ascending Fodderstack Mountain on Trail 95, we'll pick up Trail 54 to reach Bob Bald (at elevation 5280 ft). Lunch will be on the Bald while we enjoy views of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to the north and Slickrock Creek Valley below. Our return trip will be the same way.
Hike: Total distance is 7.2 miles with 750 feet of elevation gain. Rated moderate.
Our Moderate hikes are: 5-10 miles and/or elevation change of 1000-1800', on trail hiking. Hikers should be regularly hiking 5+ miles with 400-500 feet of continuous elevation gain over a mile, at a 2.0-2.5 mph pace.
