Saturday Hike: Cumberland Gap National Historic Park
Details
We will explore an interesting area on a beautiful early spring day. This hike will begin on the Gibson Gap Trail, also known locally as the Boy Scout Trail, in the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park. After a long traverse, we will quickly climb to the top of the prominent ridge that formed such a formidable barrier to the early settlers of the region, where we will head west to connect with the Lewis Hollow Trail to return to the trailhead, forming a loop.
* Total round-trip hike distance is 10.5 miles; rated Moderate.
* For more information and to register for this event, go to the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club website HERE.
* Our Moderate hikes are: 5-10 miles and/or elevation change of 1000-1800', on-trail hiking. Hikers should be regularly hiking 5+ miles with 400-500 feet of continuous elevation gain over a mile, at a 2.0-2.5 mph pace.
