What we’re about

Aim

We aim to forge a better understanding of our own natures and our world together. We also simply enjoy dancing with ideas and the synergy that comes from bouncing off the ideas of others. We don't aim to find answers here, only whether we are asking the right questions.

Our specific group usually avoids agreeing or disagreeing with ideas but rather focuses on why we believe what we believe. Usually we explore the assumptions, motivations and circumstances that drive the ideas expressed by humanity that ultimately shape us.

Format

Every Thursday we gather in a circle to suggest and vote on abstract philosophical topics, claims or questions to examine. From the familiar like "Bad behavior is subjective.", "Should we fight for other countries?" or "Technology robs us of freedom." to the less familiar: "How do we tell reality from illusion?", "Is it okay to kill zombies?" or "Does my dog love me?".

We like to keep the discussion freeform, but we do have someone moderate the discussion and enforce turn-taking if lots of people turn up so everyone gets a chance to speak if they want to.

Dogs welcome. Find us in the basement.
