Hailing from just down the road, WARGIRL is Long Beach writ large; musically diverse, with influences ranging from funk, dance, psyche and groove heavy retro-rock, WARGIRL feels a bit like a Long Beach bar crawl, but not just hitting different neighborhoods, but also different eras – there’s a bit of WAR from a garage in Wilmore in ’78, and a flash of some some long forgotten KROQ 80s night, at a 2nd street lizard bar, next it’s Bogart’s flexing it’s indie side sometime in the 90s, and now it’s that and more; international vibes and rhythms, smokey vocals… and all of it in a package that looks like it was built by some madman in the labs of either Mattel or old Hollywood, or maybe both.
Eminently stylish, undeniably groovy, and somehow retro, familiar, and fresh all at the same time.
