We start at 10.00 hrs. Please be there at 9.45 hrs for subscription and an optional quick coffee. There are usually two stops with affordable drinks and space to bring your own food.

Restaurant Nieuw Westert in Egmond binnen is easily accessible by ov bike from Alkmaar or Heiloo train station.

Jaehun Park

We are pleased to invite you and your guest to the festive opening of the solo exhibition by Jaehun Park at the Grote Kerk Alkmaar. On Thursday 26 March 2026, the church doors will open at 4:00 pm. The official programme will begin at 4:30 pm with a welcoming address by director Naud van Geffen, followed by an introduction to the exhibition. Composer and audio artist Ivo Bol presents a composition specially adapted for the Grote Kerk. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to view the works.

The exhibition by Jaehun Park marks the third edition of Hallelujah! Contemporary Altarpieces. In this series, the Grote Kerk Alkmaar presents video art that engages with urgent societal issues and enters into a meaningful dialogue with the monumental church space. For the first time, the series expands into a full solo exhibition, featuring a video triptych in the high choir and additional works presented in the northern chapels.

About the artist
Jaehun Park (1986, South Korea) lives and works in Amsterdam and operates at the intersection of digital painting, animation, and simulation. His work explores the entanglement of technology, ecology, and geopolitics, and examines how hyper-capitalist systems shape our relationship with nature, spirituality, and collective responsibility.

At the centre of the Grote Kerk, a monumental video triptych is presented, in which three works are shown in a continuous loop. This arrangement explicitly refers to the historic altarpiece that once occupied this site, situating Park’s digital imagery within a centuries-old tradition of ritual, contemplation, and visual culture. In the chapels surrounding the choir, a series of additional video works unfolds, further deepening themes such as the climate crisis, political instability, censorship, and ecological depletion.

With this exhibition, the Grote Kerk Alkmaar presents the first museum solo exhibition of Jaehun Park in the Netherlands, continuing its commitment to innovative presentations of contemporary video art in dialogue with heritage and history.
