Discover Woerden: a Scenic and Diverse 8km Walking Route
Details
On Saturday June 8th, embark with us on a beautiful and diverse 8km walking route through the historic fortress town of Woerden and its charming countryside.
We begin our journey alongside a fortification and the moat of Castle Woerden, making our way to the heart of the city. In the center, you'll encounter notable landmarks including the Stedehuys, the Petrus Church, the Arsenaal, and the Kazerne.
Next, we'll head towards the Windhond Mill and follow a section along the inner canal. After admiring the picturesque water tower, we'll continue along the outer canal with a view of Villa Rijnoord. Leaving the urban landscape behind, we'll stroll through the Bredius Estate, a park featuring ponds, meadows, and fruit trees.
The route then takes us out of Woerden and into the countryside. The last part of our route we'll be walking alongside the Oude Rijn river. The towpath after the bridge offers stunning views of the river.
We'll start our hike at 10.30AM at the train station of Woerden and that's where the route ends too. The historic city center of Woerden won't be far away from the train station, so that's where you can go for a drink and a bite afterwards.
Most of the route goes over paved paths and roads, so please wear good walking shoes. Also please check the weather forecast. In case of warm weather, make sure to bring some drinks for on the way. In case of rain, bring a rain coat / poncho / umbrella. Only in case of very bad weather we might postpone our walk to another day.
As usual, I will post my phone number in the comments on the day before the hike. In case you're late, please write to me in WhatsApp, so I can share my location with you and you can catch up with the group. Still, please try your best to arrive on time.
I hope to see you on Saturday June 8th!
