Ascension Day hike: 7km in beautiful nature from Driebergen-Zeist train station

We're going hiking again! On Ascension Day (Thursday 29th of May) - which is a day off for most people in NL and traditionally seen as the start of the outdoors season - we're going for a beautiful hike from Driebergen-Zeist train station through the estates of Bornia, Groot- and Klein-Heidestein and De Breul.

Expect thrilling forest trails, shadowy pine woods, a vast heathland with a shimmering lake, quaint little bridges, a traditional sheepfold, a mysterious woodland pond with hidden tunnels and a beautiful park, all while in the company of many other hikers.

Utrecht Hiking Community is regularly organising social hikes in and around Utrecht, open for everyone to join. Usually many expats are joining, as well as some locals, of all ages. We're not about hiking fast, but about enjoying to be outside in nature, being active while exploring new places while in the company of like-minded people from all over the world.

We're organising this hike together with UR-Glocal, which is also organising many other kinds of activities for expats in the Utrecht Region.

We're planning to start our hike from Driebergen-Zeist train station at 10.30AM. Please arrive before that time, as we don't want to keep the whole group waiting for you. We'll be waiting you in the tunnel under the station, right in front of the 'Stationshuiskamer'.

At the station there is a little shop as well as a place to fill up your bottles with some water and a toilet. Along the route there will be no toilets, so please make use of this one if needed.

Driebergen-Zeist train station can be reached easily by direct train from Utrecht Central Station. For those coming by car, unfortunately there is only paid parking near to the station. In the Q-Park garage you can park for €1,25 per hour.

A large part of the route is going over unpaved paths, so please wear proper shoes for that. Also please bring something to drink to stay hydrated while hiking.

Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on a part of this route, but there is a shortcut you can take to meet the group again on a later point during the hike.

After the hike we'll arrive back to the same train station where we started. If you want, you can then join for a lunch. There is a nice pancake restaurant nearby.
