Worldwide Knit in Public Day

Details

Hey knitters!
Join us for Worldwide Knit in Public Day on June 10th! It's a global event started in 2005 by Danielle Landes, bringing knitters together to celebrate and enjoy each other's company. It's the largest knitter-run event in the world, with local gatherings organized by volunteers who add their unique touch to the day. I'm open to suggestions on how to make this our own.

Let's show the world that knitting is a vibrant community activity. And to make it easier to connect, wear your NYC Knitters tee shirt. Get ready for a fun-filled day of knitting, connecting, and making memories.

Where to meet
The last time we met at Bryant Park, there were plenty of tables near the carousel facing the grassy area so that's where we'll meet. And just in case there are too many of us, bring a blanket. We may need to spill over into the grass area.

NYC Knitters is an Inclusive Group
Our group is all about inclusivity! We welcome people of all races, genders, sexualities, abilities, and backgrounds. We especially want to make sure that people of color, queer, and trans folks feel safe and comfortable in our group. So come hang out with us, bring your knitting or crochet, and let's have fun together. This group is for everyone.

Using public spaces
Our monthly knitting meetups are a fantastic chance to get together, share patterns, unwind with our favorite projects, and enjoy the beautiful public spaces New York City has to offer. We're so lucky to have these free spaces and we want to keep them clean and inviting for everyone. To that end, we ask that you keep a few things in mind when attending our meetups:

  • Self-Service: Our meetups are all about community and self-reliance! There's no concierge service, so upon arrival, please find a chair and set up your own space. And before you leave, kindly put your chair back where you found it.
  • Clean Up: Please be sure to pack away all your knitting supplies when you're done, including yarn scraps and any packaging. If your yarn is not picked up by others during yarn swap, please take it with you. We want to leave no trace of our crafting other than the warm memories and gorgeous creations!
  • Respect the Space: Let's remember to use these public spaces in a way that doesn't disturb others. We're sharing the park and library with the rest of the community, so let's be mindful of noise levels and take care not to take up more space than necessary.
  • Be a Good Neighbor: When we meet in the park, please dispose of any picnic waste in the proper receptacles.

By following these simple steps, we can ensure that everyone can enjoy these spaces just as much as we do. And most importantly, we can continue to have our fantastic knitting meetups without a hitch!

Remember, a stitch in time saves nine, and a quick clean up saves us from losing our favorite knitting spots!
