Every birth chart tells a story, but aspects reveal how the characters interact.
You can know what every planet means, understand every zodiac sign, and recognize every house, yet still miss one of the most important parts of chart interpretation. Aspects are what transform individual placements into a living, interconnected system. They show how different parts of the psyche communicate, cooperate, challenge one another, and evolve over time.
Welcome to the first class in the Adventures in Aspects series.
This introductory class lays the foundation for understanding one of astrology’s most essential tools. Before we explore conjunctions, squares, trines, oppositions, sextiles, and more in future classes, we’ll first learn what aspects actually are, how they are measured, and why they are so central to interpreting a birth chart.
Rather than memorizing isolated keywords, you’ll begin learning to recognize aspects as relationships between planetary archetypes. Each aspect creates a unique dynamic that shapes personality, behavior, strengths, challenges, growth, and life experiences.
Throughout this ongoing series, we’ll combine traditional astrology with modern psychological perspectives, mythology, history, chart examples, and practical interpretation techniques. You’ll build confidence reading aspects in your own chart and in the charts of others while learning how astrologers synthesize planetary relationships into meaningful interpretations.
In this introductory class we’ll explore:

• How aspects are measured using degrees.
• Understanding orbs and why exact aspects are often emphasized.
• Applying versus separating aspects.
• Major and minor aspects.
• Hard aspects, soft aspects, and why neither should automatically be viewed as “good” or “bad.”
• How aspects modify planets, signs, and houses.
• Why two people with similar planetary placements can have remarkably different life experiences because of their aspects.
• How to begin recognizing the “conversation” taking place throughout a birth chart.
By the end of this class, you’ll have a framework that will make every future chart you read richer, deeper, and more connected.

Each class will focus on a different aspect or aspect family, gradually building your ability to synthesize an entire chart instead of interpreting placements one at a time.
By the end of the series, you’ll begin seeing every birth chart as a network of planetary conversations, where every line represents a relationship, every relationship tells a story, and every story adds another layer to understanding the chart as a whole.
