Continental Divide Trail Hike Only

This is a nice Making Strides hike out in the desert with a great view of Cabezon. You may meet some hikers doing the CDT, but the focus for this event is on a hike. It is only about 45 minutes from the Home Depot where the carpool will start with David dcoordinating the carpool and drive out. There is limited shade so bring sunscreen, a hat, plenty of water and food for snack and lunch. Dogs are welcome on leash.
This will be about four miles total out and back hike going South from the Continental Divide Trail Camp Oasis, sponsored by the Continential Divide Trail Angels meetup group. The hike has modest elevation changes and is on the mesa top with some interesting geology and views of Cabezon and other volcanic peaks. We will likely run into some through hikers on the CDT, and we can let them know about the Camp Oasis and the food and drinks they can get there. CDT Angels will run a base camp for through hikers on the Continental Divide Trail in the Northern Rio Puerco basin through the month of May 2024. We will serve free food, have medical and fix-it supplies available to hikers. This will be an annual event.
The location of our base camp is as follows:
North on Hwy 550 through San Isidro then 20 miles further to San Luis/Cabazon exit turn left just past mile marker 41. This is county rd. 279 follow until asphalt road ends about 8 miles (you will go through San Luis) and then turn right on new asphalt road which is Power line/Torreon Road and go for 3 1/2 miles to BLM road 1105 (if you look left down dirt road you will see blm 1105 sign) turn left on this dirt road and you are right there about a 100 feet. This is Sedan accessible.
