Goblin Colony

Details

The Goblin Colony is an area near the Paliza Campsite in the Jemez that has really cool and unusual rock formations. We will hike up to the formations, take a quick lunch/snack and have everyone explore the area. Then head back to the trailhead.

The hike to the lower formations is not too hard. This trail starts off as an old road and then follows arroyos to the formations. The harder part is the exploration around the higher formations. Whoever would prefer not doing the harder explorations can take a longer break/lunch at the lower formations.

Total distance is around 4+ miles hiking and exploring and time of 3 hours. The trail starts 36 miles from the Home Depot near the town of Ponderosa.

We can carpool from the Home Depot.
Please have sufficient supply of water, lunch/snack, hiking shoes. There is not much shade so please bring sunscreen and a hat.

For those who are interested, we can drive up through the Gilman tunnel to see some cool geology and waterfalls on our way back.
