Join us for the Seattle Astronomical Society monthly talk series, where we get together to talk about astronomy, featuring trivia and a speaker from the field.
RSVP at https://www.seattleastro.org/events-1/membership-meetup-2026-02-18-18-30

We’re kicking off February with a fascinating deep dive into one of the universe’s most mysterious objects — black holes — and we’ll be gathering at our new meetup location Theodore Jacobsen Observatory (TJO) at UW, so please take note of the change!

This month’s featured speaker is Bruce Balick, Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington.

Dr. Balick will explore how black holes shape the universe around them, how astronomers detect and measure them, how they form from violently exploding massive stars, and whether they pose any threat to Earth. He’ll also highlight groundbreaking discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope and the Hubble Space Telescope, revealing the essential role of supermassive black holes in forming the first galaxies.

🕡 6:30 PM – Mingle & New Member Orientation
🕖 7:00 PM – Trivia & Club Updates
🎙 7:30 PM – Guest Speaker

Please double-check the updated venue details before heading out — we don’t want anyone going to the old location!
Join us for an evening of connection, discovery, and cosmic mystery 🌌
