The Roaches and Lud’s Church

Details
11.8 miles, total ascents of just over 2,500 feet. Starting from Danebridge to the North East of the Roaches, we walk alongside the River Dane for approximately three miles giving us some very enjoyable scenery looking down to the river from the high pathway amongst beautiful woodland. We head along the East side of the Roaches across open moorland ascending out of the valley to climb Hen Cloud and take a lunch break at the top. We then walk the full length of the Roaches (avoiding the crowded steps) from which there are stunning views of the Peak District on one side and Jodrell Bank and beyond on the other. From Roaches End we walk down to Lud’s Church (title picture). The Wincle brewery awaits at the end but, for those who prefer non-alcoholic, the Rudyard Lake and Tittesworth Reservoir visitor centres are both less than three miles away.
The early start is due to limited parking availability and please allow extra time for the last few miles through very narrow lanes where you will need to be aware of, and use, passing places. Car sharing advised.
