Asgardian Caves in the Peak District
Details
Pamela's aunt has unfortunately passed over a day or so ago but at the age of 96 she has certainly put in a good innings. Pam and I, still, intend to travel up on Saturday morning so will commence the Saturday walk at about 1 pm doing about 5 miles and starting at Hartingdon town centre near the public toilets (Charles Cotton Hotel) SK17 0AL. We are staying at the Manifold Hotel in Hulme End just down the road from Hartington and where Diana and David stayed last time. As far as I can tell there are 5 of us staying at the Manifold and 5 staying at Stanshope and I have booked a table at the Manifold for Saturday night dinner (for 10 -12 people) at 6.45pm ish but all are welcome.
I, envisage, a 5 to 10 minute drive on Sunday morning to a small village called Wetton near the Manifold Valley DE6 2AF where there is ample parking in the side roads or at the village car park and toilets just around the corner from the Royal Oak pub in Wetton where we can enjoy a post-walk drink if that is your want.
The walk will include Thors Cave and then the Manifold Valley possibly visiting Grindon? and Wetton Mill Tea Rooms and Loki’s Cave before returning to Wetton. The walk is 7 to 8 miles in total and not difficult just undulating with one or two sharp downhills and we should be back at Wetton by 2pm ish and away by 3pm at latest to be home for 5pm.
You could, of course, just pop up for the Sunday morning if you do not want to stay overnight so starting point for Sunday is Wetton Village Car Park DE6 2AF at 10am.
