Requests have been made for an overnight trip. Here is my response.

Let's head to Fancy Gap, VA for an extended weekend. It's a beautiful area with nearby fun things to see and do.

Accommodations will be the Blue Ridge Cabins and Campground right on the Blue Ridge Parkway at MP 202.5. They offer inexpensive small cabins, motel rooms, and tent sites. Details at https://fancygapcabinsandcampground.com/blue-ridge-parkway-cabins/

There are firepits for an evening bonfire and grills available. A restaurant featuring great breakfasts and solidly good dinners is just up the road.

We'll meet at 8:30 AM at the Shell Roadrunner station at the corner of Routes 36 and 75 in Gray. Kickstands up departure time will be at 9AM.

The route there is a moving target at this time due to residual damage to the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) from Hurricane Helene flooding that is still being addressed. My preferred route there is up the BRP from Boone, NC, but we may have to be flexible on this depending on which roads are open.

The area around our destination appears to be OK so we can visit attractions such as Mabry Mill and the BRP Music Center featuring an amazing museum and live entertainment. On Friday evenings in Floyd the downtown road (a small town!) is closed to traffic to make for a street party with local musicians playing up and down the sidewalks.

The weather in the mountains is unpredictable so pack a rainsuit just in case.
