Shoot a Live Band: Spirit of Texas Brewstillery
Details
Details
Ahhh - do we have a treat for you. Nothing is more fun than grabbing some good Mexican food, drinking an award-winning aged spirit or small batch craft beer, enjoying live music under the stars, communing with fellow photographers and shooting pictures of a great band. And it's free (well, at least the music is free).
Meet for some Mexican food before the shoot at 6:30pm. This is a cross-posted event with NAPfS...
THE VENUE:
Spirit of Texas Brewstillery:
The outdoor band stage is elevated about 3', with access completely surrounding the stage. Get great shots as the sun sets on the faces of the band members. But the stage is well lit for even greater post-sunset pictures.
THE BAND:
A favorite of mine: The Bruce Smith Band. Check out some sample recordings of BSB here.
THE FOOD TRUCK:
Spirit of Texas Brewstillery brought in a food truck just for us (well, because of us), EL MANA AUTHENTIC MEXICAN. I haven't eaten their food before, but who doesn't love Mexican, especially from a truck.
Come hungry; eat with friends before shooting
THE SCHEDULE:
Because they have a food truck onsite, sharing food and drink beforehand will be our 'socializing' for this event. Come at any time and stay as long as you like. Some people will be there by 6:30p to eat and chat before the band starts playing (which starts at 7pm).
THE EQUIPMENT:
Nothing particularly special about the gear. I have used both my 24-70mm and the 70-200mm lens, favoring the 70-200mm. A faster lens would definitely be a benefit.
THE RULES:
- The band is allowing us to shoot them, so please plan on sharing a few of your best shots with them. You can simply post them in the PHOTOS section on meetup for this event. You still retain copyright.
- NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
- Don’t stand in one spot for more than a few minutes. If YOU think it’s that good, then maybe others might as well. Please be kind and share.
- Consider bringing ear plugs, as you will be next to some loud audio speakers.
- I'll try to reserve a picnic table off to the side of the band stage for us to sit and to hold our unused gear.
