Progressive Metal Concert

Their music is defined as progressive-sludge-metal by the press, granitic and burning riffs, never excessive virtuosity, epic melodies and indomitable spirit. From 2009 onwards the progressive refinements, the hard-rock hints and the references to the 70s will grow, revived to the point of sounding fresh and current. Mastodon's music is wild but melodic, immediate but technical, linked to the past but projected into the future.
Curiously, Mastodon do not consider themselves metal. Troy Sanders told Loudwire in 2014: "We don't think of ourselves as a metal band. We admit that there's a lot of metal in our music, but we also want to believe that there's a lot of rock'n'roll, and that we have a lot of progressive rock, bits of thrash and punk, and a kind of psychedelic sprinkled on top".
