Join Us for the Lachine Canal Photo Shoot (Saturday, Oct 31, 2026 @ 2:30 pm)

For our Montreal group’s first outing, please join us for a relaxed artistic photography outing along the Lachine Canal.

We will meet at the open pedestrian plaza right at the foot of the Charlevoix Bridge, located at the corner of Rue Charlevoix and Rue Saint-Patrick (on the south side of the Lachine Canal).
It’s three blocks north of Charlevoix Metro station. There will be a small TAOP Montreal sign to make it easy to find us.

We’ll walk at a leisurely pace about 1.5 kms along the canal toward the Saint-Gabriel Lock, stopping frequently to photograph whatever catches our attention.

Depending on your interests and the opportunities that arise along the way, you may want to photograph combinations of the canal, historic industrial elements, modern architecture, skylines, nature, street life, people, reflections, textures, patterns — or simply anything else that catches your eye and your imagination.
The idea is to explore the area together and see what different photographers notice.

This is an opportunity to meet other photographers and exchange ideas. All skill levels are welcome, whether you're bringing a camera or a smartphone.

Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather since we'll be outdoors for the entire shoot.
We will walk and take photos for approximately 2 hours.

Afterwards, around 4:30 PM, for anyone who wants to continue the conversation, we’ll head for an entirely optional cafe stop.

Most importantly, come ready to look for visual opportunities, meet other photographers, and enjoy photographing the area around the canal together! I hope we will enjoy sharing photographic ideas and learn from each other. We look forward to welcoming everyone, including our many French-speaking members. I personally will communicate mostly in English, as my French is still a work in progress.

SHARING PHOTOS
Once this Meetup event ends, we will create an album on the Photos page. Please post up to five (5) of your photographs from the event before 10 PM (EDT) on Sunday, November 10, 2026.

Eligible photos:

• Must be taken on Saturday, October 31st in the vicinity of the photo shoot
• Must be posted before the deadline
• Must have a title
• Must NOT be sexually explicit or suggestive

We will all have access to this album and may post comments or questions on the individual photos. Please be sure to keep your comments kind and courteous. We want a supportive and encouraging group.

Organizers will also review the album and select a particularly beautiful or interesting photo to become the permanent album cover of the event. The name of the selected image’s photographer will appear in the album title.
