Developer Skills in the Age of AI: What Stays Hard When Code Gets Cheap

It’s been a longer break than expected since our last CodeTalk, , and we’re excited to bring the community back together. We’re thrilled to kick things off with Developer Skills in the Age of AI!

Abstract:
AI coding tools are changing how we deliver software. Most of us already write less code by hand, but software development is not turning into clicking “accept” on generated changes. So when generating code gets cheaper, what stays difficult?

This talk takes the middle path between two extremes: a “dark software factory” with no humans involved, and a world where nothing changes. Instead of asking whether AI will replace developers, it asks where the hard work is moving.

We also cover what this means for upskilling, team composition and technical interviews. Attendees leave with three questions to bring into their own teams: Which tasks are getting cheaper? Which responsibilities are becoming more important? Which skills do we need to train deliberately?
