Let's go hiking!
The Wetmore area offers a blend of history and nature—from its horse‑breeding past to today’s reforested landscape. It’s one of CVNP’s best spots, giving hikers a moderately challenging, scenic experience with fewer crowds than the Towpath
### 🌲 Location & Background
- Trailhead address: 4653 Wetmore Road, Peninsula, OH 44264
- History: The area was once Blackacre Farm, nationally known for breeding Morgans and Thoroughbred horses. It was owned by Frederick and Emila Wetmore in the late 1800s, later developed by Tress and Peggy Pittenger in 1958. Peggy Pittenger was a noted horse breeder and author.
- Restoration: Since 2003, flood damage required major restoration. Thousands of trees have been replanted to reduce runoff into the Cuyahoga River
