Friday evening Bible Study Ruth Chapter 2 with Recap on Ruth Chapter 1

Details
You may be familiar with The Five Love Languages book by Gary Chapman, however God's love language is obedience. Jesus said if you love me you'll keep my commandments (John 14:15). Obedience to God's commands doesn't save us. When reading John 14:15-21 we see that when you are saved you have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a Spirit of Truth and it is a Counselor that lies within you as soon as you repent of your sins and receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Studying the book of Ruth from the perspective of obedience is insightful because Ruth 1:1 we see disobedience. Bethlehem means "House of Bread," and even though there was a famine upon the land, this is the land of Israel that Elimelech and his family was leaving to go into Moab. Going into a pagan land that God had delivered Israel from was clearly steps of going into the wrong direction. Ruth married into this family and then becomes a widow. Her obedience to God helps her to overcome obstacles, it gives her provision that she and Naomi be provided for, it provided an arc of safety, and purpose in being in the lineage to Jesus (Matthew 1:5, 16). Let's study Ruth Chapter 2 together with a short recap of Ruth Chapter 1 first.
