Hi everyone!

For our inaugural meeting of Film Club, we'll be meeting to discuss the 2022 film Godland, directed by Hlynur Pálmason. The movie is available to watch at your leisure on iPlayer, the Zoom call will just be us chatting rather than a watch party.

Here's a synopsis of Godland:

'At the end of the 19th century, a young Danish priest is sent to a remote part of Iceland. The deeper he travels into the Icelandic landscape, the more he loses a sense of his own reality, his mission and his sense of duty.'

It's won a few awards, including Best Feature Film at Chicago Film Festival and Riga International Film Festival. Here's what some critics have to say about it:

'One of the most poignant films about the human spirit and it's struggles released in the last couple of years. An experience that trascends faith through pain and beauty to focus on humanity's search both for meaning and oblivion.'

'Godland is a sophisticated psychological drama that is photographed with an enormous amount of skill and attention to detail.'

'I want to say that this is nearly a perfect film but there are a couple of inconsistencies that I just can't ignore.'

But I'm interested to hear your thoughts! What did you make of it?

See you on Wednesday 15th!
