In the workshop we will talk about the shape, the meaning and the similarities rather than differences.

We will set contact with the geometric symbols that Julia have embroidered specifically for the workshop and try to understand what they may mean to you personally.
We will make notebooks that you can immediately use to write down your ideas and associations.

Through a series of guided questions we will try to weave your own personal story related to the chosen symbol and will try together to find out what thousand year old symbols mean to us today.

Get cozy and plunge with Julia into a mysterious world of geometric symbols that have been accompanying human beings through most of our existence.

*About Julia:

Julia Mekes is an artist, researcher, educator and maker who has chosen geometric symbols as her research field and an endless source of inspiration. She juggles several media: combining graphics and textile, video and animation, experimenting with installa-

tions and public art. Through her work she questions the status quo of the current societal formation, hoping to reveal the common language that could become a means to connect people in a form of Pangaea Proxima. Her work centres on migrant identity, (post) colonial reconsiderations, sustainability and feminism. Julia has taken part in several exhibitions, local and international.
