What we're about

The aim of this meetup group is to provide opportunities to speak Japanese. Anyone able and willing to (try and) communicate in Japanese is very welcome. Your Japanese does not need to be flawless (mine is far from!). Japanese native speakers are very welcome too.

The events are held in a room at a community centre, as in my experience cafes can be too noisy and crowded. I provide coffee and tea, and ask for a fee of € 3 in order to cover expenses. Japanese native speakers attend for free.

't Strandpaviljoen, come to side entrance on Grevelingenstraat

Please join if you are willing and (sort of) able to communicate in (bad) Japanese during the event, without resorting to Dutch or English (too much). 日本語だけでお願いします。This doesn’t mean your Japanese needs to be flawless! You can indicate when you are lost, and ask the others to repeat, reword or explain something, but please try to do this in Japanese. I am counting on the native and advanced speakers to be patient with those who struggle a bit, and on the other hand I am counting on the beginners to accept that they will at times not understand everything said. * I ask for a fee of € 3. Japanese native speakers attend for free. ネイティブスピーカーの方になるべくご協力いただきたいため、日本語ネイティブの方は参加費が無料となっております。よろしくお願いいたします。 * You can pay the fee in cash at the event, or transfer the money (preferably prior to the event) via the following link: https://www.ing.nl/particulier/betaalverzoek/index.html?trxid=lwatOxo639tePCma3g77kLwpwk0Fp07e (If your bank account name does not match your Meetup account name, please send me a message via Meetup to tell me, so I know the payment is yours. You only have to tell me the first time.) * I provide coffee and tea. * Please feel free to arrive later or to leave earlier. * If there are more than a handful of people, I will divide you into smaller groups and ensure the groups are mixed up several times. I think meeting different people will stimulate conversation. * It would be great if a few of you can help tidying up, doing the dishes and rearranging the furniture. * Please come to the side entrance of the building, around the corner, on the Grevelingenstraat, and knock on the door. * If you have RSVPed Yes, but it turns out you can't come after all, please change your RSVP to No. ---------- GETTING THERE You can take a bus from Utrecht Central Station. Exit the station at the “Jaarbeurszijde” (at the side of the higher-numbered train platforms), and directly after the ticket gates you will find the stairs/lifts to the two bus platforms C and D. Please take Bus 1 to Hoograven, departing from platform D3 (go downstairs at sign "Haltes D"). (Please do NOT take Bus 1 to Overvecht from the platform nearby!) The bus will take you to bus stop "Balijelaan" in 4-5 minutes. From there, you can walk to the community centre in 3-4 minutes. Please come to side entrance on Grevelingenstraat. Alternatively, take the train or bus to Utrecht Vaartsche Rijn station. From there you can walk to the community centre in about 8 minutes. If you come by car, there is free parking on Sunday.
