THE BOOK: In On Freedom, Timothy Snyder offers a philosophical and historical reflection on what freedom truly means. Moving beyond slogans, he explores how freedom depends on truth, solidarity, responsibility, and meaningful connection with others. Thought-provoking and deeply relevant, this book invites us to rethink liberty not just as independence — but as something we build together.
Last year we read Snyder’s On Tyranny, which inspired millions to fight for freedom. In On Freedom, the acclaimed Yale historian takes us on a philosophical and historical journey to understand exactly what freedom is, why it matters, and how we can protect it. Thought-provoking and urgent, this book invites us to rethink liberty not just as independence, but as a value we build and defend together.
"On Freedom" is available from Backstory Bookshop in paperback or as an audiobook.
