If you consider yourself groovy, then this is the group for you. Any person who thinks outside the box, marches to the beat of their own drum, has interesting ideas and views, is creative, you enjoy retro and vintage, mid century modern design, The Rat Pack and the culture that goes with it, tiki culture, you enjoy cocktails, diverse people of different cultures, a love of great music, cocktail parties, singing karaoke and the list goes on and on. You have a love of life and enjoy living it to the fullest! The purpose of this Meetup group is to meet new people and partake in fun and interesting events together. The goal is to make new friends! This is NOT a singles dating group. Of course we welcome singles and couples but please know our goal is to make friends not get our next hook up. I know there are “singles friends” groups out there and they are being ambiguous about their intentions. However, that is not what we.re doing. Again, please come wanting to make friends. If you meet someone and have a romantic connection, great but that’s not the goal of Groovy People Making Friends. All ages are encouraged. EVERYONE is welcome:)
So at the moment, this is our ONLY authentic tiki bar in the Dallas area. There are a group of groovy people out there who love the tiki culture and all that tiki stands for and I'd like to share the culture with all of you in Dallas. The "Tiki People" which I like to call them or "Tikiphiles", all know each other! Not just here in Dallas but all over the place from California to Vegas to many other cities/states and even all over the world! Tiki is making a comeback! Yay! This is a hidden culture that I'd like to introduce you to and you will meet some of the nicest and grooviest people you didn't even know existed!
If you're interested in learning more about the culture, here's a great article: http://tikiloungetalk.com/tiki-culture/
Being so close to Halloween, you're encouraged to dress up in a Halloween costume but it's not mandatory. I must say, that I did win an award for best "Queen of Hearts" costume last year but I don't think I have the time to outdo myself this year. I've posted a photo though! However, if you're not into dressing in costume, I HIGHLY recommend you don some sort of Polynesian wear or else you'll feel out of place. Yep, for men an Aloha shirt and for ladies, well, a dress or fun top that is Polynesian. A few places to find groovy retro/vintage Polynesian clothes are listed here:
DJ Magnum will be there spinning all your Halloween favorite tunes. I'm not kidding, all tunes are well thought out and Halloween inspired. The environment is happy and a great place to talk and meet new friends!
The lounge does not have food, BUT the taco place next door which is connected, is more than happy to take your order and either bring it to you or text you when your order is done and you can bring food into the bar from outside. AMAZING tacos!
When you get there, feel free to text me and I'll look for you. I'll try to save a few tables for our group but if you arrive too late, I can't guarantee seating for everyone. Everyone will receive a free lei! Woohoo!
There is no cover and you will order your drinks at the bar.
Looking forward to meeting all of you! It will be a fun night!
