Chichester Harbour Nature Reserve: Bird watching and a hike

Details

Join me on this beautiful hike and visit Chichester Harbour AONB.
The site is fabulous, right there on a migratory route where you will be able to spot all the waders you can dream of amongst others such as the thousands of Brent and black Brent geese that come from Russia to spend the winter in our stunning country.

CHICHESTER HARBOUR is a large natural harbour to the south west of the city of Chichester on the Solent.
The Harbour is home to a small colony of about 30 Harbour seals.
It is one of four natural harbours in that area of the coastline, the others being Portsmouth Harbour, Langstone Harbour and Pagham Harbour
The massive stretch of tidal flats and saltings are of outstanding ecological significance. Very large populations of wildfowl and waders use the mudflats feeding on the rich plant life and the huge populations of intertidal invertebrates. More than 7,500 Brent geese overwinter on the intertidal mud-land and adjacent farmland and around 55,000 birds reside in or visit the Harbour throughout the year.
Really, those landscapes are quite unique, you will be surrounded by water and birds and the sunset is exceptional.

Birds I usually encounter on this trip are; greenshanks, redshanks, curlews, whimbrels, grey and golden plovers, Brent geese, black Brent, little grebes, peregrines, barn owls, little egrets, little terns, kestrels, hobbies, mergansers ...

This trip besides being designed for bird watchers isn't just going to be a bird watching trip but also a hike, you will need to be able to walk 11 miles/16km flat.

The landscape that you will discover will be worth a photo and we will end on a sandy beach so that we can enjoy a stunning sunset over the dunes.
