Details

A Birding hotspot on the west side of the city is listed on eBird as Avra Valley Wastewater Treatment Facility (Plant). I called the plant and they told me that there is water in the ponds! You can go to eBird here: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L211851/bird-list to see a list of recent bird sightings.

Here's a road map for you: https://www.google.com/maps/place/32%C2%B009'54.0%22N+111%C2%B010'44.4%22W/@32.1409171,-111.1679388,12.6z/data=!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d32.165!4d-111.179?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDEyOS4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

It's very easy to find: go west on Ajo Rd from I-19 and go past Kinney Rd where there is a stop light and a Circle-K, then you will turn right onto San Joaquin Rd a few more miles west then a quick left on Snyder Hill Rd that takes you west to the entrance that will be on your right. It's about 3.5 miles once you are on Snyder Hill Rd.

The gate opens at 8:00 am so let's meet at the parking area of the facility. Once you pull off of Snyder Hill Rd you will see fencing straight ahead and a large gate. That's NOT where we go in! You have to veer left and you'll see fencing and continue on an angle to the corner of the fencing and you'll see a sign on the gate about us birders! There is ample parking at the fence. An employee unlocks the gate promptly at 8:00 am.

We saw a wide variety of birds last February so let's hope that can happen again. There will be water birds (in the different ponds) and a lot of passerine birds too. For example, there was a large flock of Lark Sparrows last winter! We hope that you can come out and enjoy with us!
