Tanque Verde Wash at Wentworth Rd Birding Event
Details
Let's return to the Tanque Verde Wash at Wentworth Rd. I was back in there last night (you go west into the wash from the road) and there was a lot of birds including hawks circling above.
It's very simple to reach; go east on Speedway or Tanque Verde Rd and you'll see the sign to turn onto Wentworth Rd. You park before the wash. Anyone who parks on the road in the wash area will be towed and/or given a parking violation ticket. It's a very flat stroll and after a couple hundred yards there are very tall mature trees.
There will probably be NO water crossing the road but not very far in and to the west the water comes up above ground and there is a stream running. When you have water you have birds! There are a lot of flowering native plants so hummers will be about as well as many butterflies!
I saw Bewick's wren, Yellow-rumped warbler, Northern cardinal, Gila woodpecker and Ladder-backed woodpecker, Northern flicker, Song sparrow, House finch, Verdin, Lesser goldfinch, Red-tailed hawks, Swainson's hawk, Common raven, Mourning dove, Phainopepla, Vermillion flycatcher, and Abert's towhee. Not bad for a Sunday evening March 8!
I look forward to seeing you all once again!
