Playworld
By Adam Ross
NAMED A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORKER, PEOPLE, AND TOWN & COUNTRY • NAMED A NOTABLE BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORK TIMES AND THE WASHINGTON POST •
Playworld, is a richly detailed, sometimes uncomfortable look at a young person coming of age in NYC amidst adults who don’t truly guide him—and how he begins to reckon with identity, intimacy, and the masks we all wear. The novel unfolds against the backdrop of a city that pulses with contradictions—the glitz of Broadway contrasted against a fading political landscape—with Jimmy Carter on his way out and a B-list celebrity named Ronald Reagan on his way in. Ross masterfully conveys the inherent mysteries of adolescence, with all its confusion, heartbreak and humorous discoveries.
Discussion group is hosted in Travel Bug the first Tuesday of the month by Aimee Gwynne Franklyn, an independent curator, art historian and producer based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
