Book club - meditation for mortal ‘Oliver bukerman’

Details

Thanks for coming to this month’s book club gathering. Today, we’re diving into the thought-provoking work of Oliver Burkeman—a British author and journalist best known for exploring the big questions around time, productivity, and the pursuit of a meaningful life.

You might know him from his long-running column in The Guardian, “This Column Will Change Your Life,” where he humorously dissected self-help culture. But it’s his books—especially “The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking” and the widely acclaimed “Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals”—that have really made waves.

Burkeman challenges the traditional ideas of productivity and self-optimization. In Four Thousand Weeks, he reminds us that the average human life lasts just about that long—and that trying to “do it all” is not only impossible, but deeply unhelpful. Instead of chasing efficiency, he urges us to embrace our limits, focus on what matters most, and find peace in the fact that we’re never going to get everything done.
