The 'Dark Side Series' is our space within Beautiful Minds for a deeper, more honest conversation. We look beyond the surface of cherished ideals to question their hidden complexities and unintended consequences. The aim is not cynicism, but discernment: the deeper understanding that comes from courageously exploring uncomfortable and complex truths.

Session 6: The Dark Side of 'Looking at the Dark Side'

Yes, you read that right. In this evening’s session, we are putting the dark side lens under the microscope.

We critiqued some popular, cherished ideals, from personal growth to empathy. But what if critique itself has a shadow? There is a fine line between being discerning and being cynical… between seeing the complexity of the world and losing the ability to simply enjoy it.

In this meta-session of The Dark Side Series, we are turning the lens on ourselves to ask:

Cynicism: Can critical thinking curdle into a default setting of negativity, where we tear down ideas but forget how to build anything in their place?

Analysis Paralysis: Can we become so obsessed with finding the hidden downsides of every choice that we become afraid to make any move at all?

The Intellectual High Horse: Does being a critical thinker sometimes make us feel superior to those who find comfort in the simple things we critique?

Ready to find out if we’ve been looking too hard at the shadows?
