About Graham Park & Parking:
To those who haven’t ‘yet’ visited Graham Park, it stands as one of the most outstanding sports and activities venues!
o Within Graham Park all vehicles must follow the posted speed limit of 5mph; it's enforced.
o The exclusive field for all ML games (assuming entering the Park from Rochester Rd) is on the right as you drive past the first regulation-size softball field, also on the right.
o The ML has exclusively reserved parking spots – in the lot in front of the field. Signs are posted.
o We will likely have water and/or Gatorade. However, our suggestion is to bring one's own. ONLY water is allowed on the field surface; ie, colored drinks are prohibited on the field.
o There's a "canteen" that’s open a short walk from the field. o There is one all-gender restroom, located at the rear of the brick hut. There are additional restrooms located on the right side of the canteen.
o It is VERY strongly suggested that folks on the field NOT wear flip-flops or sandals. This is a "safety for all" request! Sneakers are the footwear of the MLSWPA!
o Dogs are not allowed anywhere in Graham Park (per Cranberry Township ordinance).
About Being a BUDDY:
o Each Player is accompanied on the ML field by a Buddy and/or an Assistant Buddy.
o Buddies are Players’ “shadows.” They are there to protect the Player from hit or thrown soft-rubber baseballs, to assist (if needed) the Player while batting (using colored, plastic bats), and to run the bases with their Player.
o It is common that new Player-Buddy friends are made on the ML field.
o Buddies receive a Miracle League Buddy t-shirt (in yellow) for their participation.
o Other than the above, the most significant thing to know is to NOT allow a Player to wander outside either of the two gates (one at the end of each dugout), unless accompanied by their parent or their Buddy. Since returning from Covid-19, many of the Players are buddied up with one of their parents. However, if needed, the Buddy (or Parent) MUST inform their team’s manager/coach that they are accompanying their Player beyond the gate. The most often reason given by a Player is to use the restroom. However, our Players can be “sly” about their wish to leave the field. Use your sense about your Player or ask the manager/coach/parent for advice!
I hope you’re excited about being a Buddy to a Special Needs Player! PLAY BALL!
