🚗 Arrival & Parking:
The gates will open at 8:50 AM. HUF staff will direct you to parking. After meeting at the gates, volunteers will proceed to the greenhouses for sign-in and a quick welcome to kick off the day!
What to Bring
- Rain gear (raincoat, waterproof boots, hat)
- Refillable water bottle
- Closed-toe shoes (required)
- Long pants (recommended)
HUF will provide all tools and safety gear, plus cold Gatorade and snacks.
Description of Hilltop Urban Farm:
Hilltop Urban Farm is a nonprofit, community-centered farm in Pittsburgh’s Hilltop community. Located on 23 acres of land - with 5 acres currently dedicated to agriculture - HUF is a multi-pronged initiative that provides agricultural-based education for all ages, generates entrepreneurial opportunities through the Farmer Incubation Program, and produces locally-grown crops for our neighbors distributed through three Hilltop food pantries.
Located at 700 Cresswell St. Pittsburgh, PA 15210 HUF sits within the former St. Clair Village housing development.
Currently there are three different ways to volunteer at HUF:
(1) Every third Saturday is an Open Volunteer Day 9am - 12pm, April - October. Farm tasks for all abilities are planned for the timeframe and depending on how many people show up, are accomplished together. We also have one Wednesday evening to welcome folks who work during the day.
(2) Volunteer as an individual after an introductory interview by the director of farm operations and land management and the director of farm programs. Determine a regular schedule with HUF staff input. This can be weekdays, evenings, or weekends. It can be weekly, bi-weekly, etc - -- so we know when to expect you and can match your schedule to the needs of the farm.
(3) Volunteer as a group, often corporate groups or service groups come to us in parties of 5 or more individuals to get out of the office, work in the fresh air, team build and have fun.

Please understand that your RSVP needs to be an otherwise FIRM COMMITMENT. We understand that life happens and sometimes things come up that may force people to cancel, however the organization is counting on us to be there for those in need. Also, please be considerate of your fellow members' expectations for meeting up with those who have RSVP'd for the event.
