Cafe Philo: fashion?

QUESTIONS
What is fashion? How is fashion created? In particular, consider fashion as a collective behavior: i.e., would fashion exist if either the creators OR the consumers ceased to exist?
What are some fashions that you know and admit you are affected by? What are some fashions that you follow but reluctantly?
Is fashion a 'good' (eg beautiful, pleasureable, social connection, ...) or is it not (eg, unnecessary/extravagant, vanity, wasteful/conspicuous consumption, ...) ?
MIght we do well to adopt a Cynic's approach to fashion? (Eg, "what would Diogenes have to say about 'fashion'?" Put the question into Google and see what you get.)

Ought philosophers have a 'philosopher's uniform'? (I think Diogenes of Sinope / the Cynic would have been appalled at the idea!)

Language, never forget, is more fashion than science, and matters of usage, spelling and pronunciation tend to wander around like hemlines.
