Join us for an in-person meetup, where we will deep dive into the relationship between Machine Learning and "The Business."
When working with Machine Learning, we need to remember our goals and how our models can help the company's business model, revenue, and more.
We will start our meetup with Andres Asaravicius from Riskified, who will share with us how Machine learning has evolved to drive business results. Then Javier Albert from Booking.com will show us how Causal Inference and ML can help with promotions optimizations.

About the speaker: Andres has been with Riskified for over 7 years; he leads a multidisciplinary team of experienced Data Scientists and Engineers. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in building the company’s data science infrastructure, as well as leading end-to-end research projects. Currently, his team is focused on developing cutting-edge tools to detect sophisticated fraud attacks, which helps Riskified to prevent millions of dollars in potential losses each year.
With a background in Statistics and Sociology, Andres is passionate about leveraging machine learning technology to transform complex data into actionable insights. He is passionate about Machine Learning technologies, NBA, and football.

In this talk we are going to cover recent advances in causal inference for e-commerce applications, in particular for pricing and discounts optimization. We are going to explore how to approach real use cases, from data collection to causal modeling and policy evaluation, covering current challenges in the available methods and productionisation.

About the speaker: Javier Albert is a Machine Learning Manager at Booking.com. He leads a group of scientists working on dynamic pricing, incentives personalization, and promotions optimization. His work in causal inference for discounts allocation has been published at international conferences such as RecSys, CIKM, WSDM and WWW. He is the co-author of the open-source package UpliftML.
