Meetup Sailing Club

The first bank holiday sailing trip of 2026, so a real good opportunity to go a little further afield with an overnight sail. The weather largely decides where would be the most ideal place to go, but past trips have made it to St Vaast, Alderney or Dartmouth to name just a few.

The trip starts on Friday with an over night sail getting to our destination the next day, where we'll relax for a day before starting the trip back towards the solent and stay somewhere local on Sunday. Monday is usually a leisurely cruise back within the Solent.

This trip is better suited for the more experienced sailors that have no issue with crossing the english channel, passports will be required.

This weekend is a little taster of what it's like to sail a modern cruiser racer. This weekend is also a newbie qualifier for the Summer cruise to Falmouth and then visiting the West country harbours on the way back.

The weekend will consist of getting to know the yacht and then showing you how to sail her in the sheltered waters of the Solent. We'll stop over in either Cowes or Lymington on Saturday night and then cruise back to Gosport on Sunday.

There are two car parks, berth holders and visitors. You may be directed to the visitor’s car park, where the car parking is free for you.
Wolverine is stationed on pontoon F52 and the marina staff are happy to guide you.

Saturday
Up on deck for 09:00 preparing Wolverine to sail and going through the motions of how we need to secure her at the other end. Safety briefing at 09:30hrs and underway by 10:00am towards the Solent.

Typically; 19:00hrs We'll aim to get out for some dinner and if we can find it some live entertainment.

Sunday
Breakfast ashore and then head back into the Solent. Sunday is all about cruising and sharing knowledge with those who are still learning.

Costs
The Friday to Sunday trip is £280, which includes Yacht, fuel, skipper.
What’s not included is: Food and Drink or the marina berthing fees which are shared between us.

What you'll need
• Wash bag and towel
• Sleeping bag and pillowcase [not the pillow]
• Layered clothes in a soft bag for storage
• Hat and sailing gloves
• Sun cream / sunglasses, we are if nothing hopeful
• Non-marking out deck shoes or trainers
• Your favourite tipple and snacks to share around.
• Water proofs jacket and trousers if you have them
• Life jackets will be allocated on arrival and are to be worn whilst sailing

• Strong opinionated views, theres always another side to explore.

We start with an overnight sail to the West country and then finding our way into Falmouth for one of the UK's largest Shanty festival. Believe it or not your skipper is one of the Dockyard Dogs who will be performing over that weekend to raise money for the RNLI.

Rough Itinerary
10/06 Wednesday 16:00 leave to catch the westerly going tide. We'll sail overnight towards our first stop
11/06 Thursday Arrive in Fowey
12/06 Friday Fowey to Falmouth
13/06 Saturday and Sunday Yarmouth shanty festival
14/06 Monday Falmouth to Dartmouth
15/06 Tuesday Dartmouth to Poole Harbour
16/06 Wednesday Poole Harbour to Yarmouth or Cowes
17/06 Yarmouth or Cowes back to Gosport

Depending on the wind we would have covered approx. 350-400nm with at least 1 night sail. The trip would suit the more adventorous sailor, but if you are a Newbie we'll set up a taster weekend before the trip, which you can sign up for to see how you get on with the Yacht and other new crew members.

This weekend is about giving those with their comp crew or day skipper licences a little morel latitude to test their skills, Newbies are welcome to join with the day skippers for some confidence building.

Wolverine is a fast modern cruiser racer and is a pleasure to sail well when fully tuned in. We'll forget about point to point sailing and focus more on sailing with the wind across our sails and how to set them and get the best out the yacht.

The weekend will consist of getting to know Wolverine and then showing you how to sail her fast in the reasonably sheltered waters of the Solent. We'll stop over in either Cowes, Yarmouth or Lymington on Saturday night and then cruise back to Gosport on Sunday.
