What we’re about
With more than 130 centres in 41 countries, Rigpa presents the Buddhist tradition of Tibet in a way that is both completely authentic and relevant to the lives and needs of modern society.
Sogyal Rinpoche is the founder and spiritual director of Rigpa. A world-renowned Buddhist teacher from Tibet, raised by the most outstanding spiritual Tibetan masters of the twentieth century including Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö, who supervised Rinpoche’s training and raised him like his own son. Sogyal Rinpoche is also the author of the highly acclaimed The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.
Rinpoche and Rigpa’s main focus is to make the Buddha’s teachings available as widely as possible, in a way that is authentic, accessible and beneficial for people of all ages, and from all walks of life.
Where do I Start?
The Buddhist tradition of Tibet is recognized as one of the world’s most unique and distinctive spiritual cultures.
"The gift of learning to meditate is the greatest gift you can give yourself in this life. For it is only through meditation that you can undertake the journey to discover your true nature, and so find the stability and confidence you will need to live and die, well". Sogyal Rinpoche

See all- New Module: The Wisdom of Compassion803 Nicholson St, Carlton North
The Wisdom of Compassion presents key Buddhist teachings on the powerful logic of compassion and practical methods for developing a more kind relationship with ourselves, those around us and ultimately all beings.
Our innate capacity for empathy is the source of the very best of human qualities: love, kindness, generosity, warm-heartedness, courage … compassion. Although we are born with a vast capacity to love, we may not know how to do so unconditionally, or how to express that love in practice.
When our heart and mind are filled with love, we find the greatest inner healing, tranquillity and well-being. Modern research shows that with empathy and compassion we can be more fully ourselves, connect more easily with others, improve self worth and reduce self-criticism, and lead healthier lives.
Participants in this course will learn how to:- develop loving kindness for themselves
- extend that loving kindness to all beings
- move along the path from compassion to fully enlightened courage
Module 2 - The Four Immeasurable Powers of the Heart—the cultivation of loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity—offer a rich suite of practices that open the heart, counter the distortions in our relationships to ourselves, and deepen our relationships to others.
This 10-week module explores each of these.
Led by Western meditation instructors with many years of experience, each session consists of:- Video teachings from Tibetan and Western Buddhist masters including Sogyal Rinpoche, Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, Mingyur Rinpoche, Pema Chödrön and Sharon Salzberg.
