A scenic ride in the stunning Strzelecki ranges. We’ll ride on quiet roads through rainforest fern gullies and take in plenty of stunning, sweeping views across rolling hills.

A highlight of this ride is the Moonlight Creek picnic area, a hidden gem with forest walks.

**For this ride you’ll need to be an experienced tourer who can tackle hills and gravel surfaces. You'll need to be comfortable with bush camping and organising your food including 1 x dinner, breakfast and lunch plus snacks.**

Some riders may choose to drive directly to the camp site at Allambee, skipping the day one hill climb from Yarragon. Please let me know in the comments : )

This ride is for MBTC members who have paid their annual $25 fee to the club.

Transport

Train - 09.54 Traralgon line service departing Southern Cross. On Sunday, return trains from Yarragon to Melb depart every 40 minutes.

Drivers can leave their vehicles at Yarragon Station (or another location)

Bush camping at Allambee
Camping is at a private site on a rural property in Allambee. It’s super beautiful, with a composting toilet and fire pit but no shower or seating.

Day one - Saturday 10km - 400 vm climbing - (plus optional extra riding from camp)

We’ll meet in Yarragon - Fozigobble cafe - at 11.45 for a relaxed early lunch. From there, cycle around 10km to the camp site. This short ride involves a continuous climb of 400vm up into the ranges, so we’ll take it slowly and admire the views.

After setting up our tents, spend time chilling out at camp or jump back on the bikes for an out-and-back ride along the Mirboo-Yarragon road.

Sunday loop ride – 50km – 800vm (down 1190)
We’ll ride a fabulous loop taking in the Mt Worth State Park, Tarwin River, small waterfalls and scenic viewpoints. The ride loops back to the camp site where we can pick up our gear before descending to Yarragon.

The route is part gravel and part sealed. The gravel is mostly quite good with some looser sections.
